AMMON'S STORY
(April 2007) Early in 2007 Ammon began noticing that his balance was off and he was experiencing severe headaches. His doctor thought he may have a sinus or ear infection and began treating him with antibiotics. The problem continued and the doctor ordered a CAT scan, finding a mass. The next day Ammon went in for an MRI confirming the mass was a tumor. At the time, the tumor looked benign
to those reading the x-ray.
Three days before his surgery to remove the tumor on February 19th Ammon became very ill from pressure building up in his brain, caused by the tumor blocking the natural flow of fluids to his spine. He entered the emergency room and was admitted into Barrow's ICU.
The shunt that was inserted into his head to relieve the pressure made the pain somewhat bearable until the doctors were able to perform the surgery. The doctors were very surprised to soon discover that the tumor was malignant. They waited to see if removing the tumor would then allow the brain fluid to flow through naturally. But a permanent shunt was needed.
Ammon began radiation on Monday, March 19. He returned home feeling quite well. A few hours later he began feeling very ill again. He was not able to receive more treatment for several days due to sickness. He will continue to be treated with radiation and chemotherapy.
Ammon is 28 years old. He and his wife, Betsey, have been married for 6 1/2 years and are blessed with a three-year-old daughter, Brooklyn, and a new baby girl, Hayden,
born on March 26th.
Ammon possesses great strengths, faith and friends. He enjoys playing sports, and music is a big part of his life. He has truly been blessed from all the prayers and fasting in his behalf.
